KCPE 2015 candidates from Masaba KNUT branch who will manage an admission to public national schools and their parents are members of the union will be sponsored fully, branch Deputy Secretary has revealed.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with the reporter on Monday, Mr James Oteki said the union had notified its members about the plan and are expecting to have the list of beneficiaries after the form selection ends.

He said the union was keen in supporting and empowering its teachers by investing in education among its members.

“I am very happy to inform our members that we are keen to support their children who will be enrolled in national schools as we promised last year. It was a promise and we had to abide by it. We still don’t know the number of beneficiaries but that will be made public when selection is done,” he said.

When asked about the criteria to be used, Oteki said the union branch secretariat will scrutinize birth certificates of the candidates who qualify for the support to ascertain whether or not they are children to members.

“We will not give support to the proxy kins of the member. It must be bold children for our members and that was the policy. We will scrutinize the birth certificates to certify the aid. We hope teachers will not seize the opportunity to propose distant relatives for the support,” he said.

He said the union will, later on, this year sit down to assess whether the program will be adopted to be a continuous exercise in years to come.
