Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has released a report showing the improved performance of the Port during  the 2015-2016 financial year.

Speaking during a briefing  with the media on Tuesday Acting KPA MD Catherine Mturi said services at the port have greatly improved compared to last year.

"Since last year 26 million tonnes of cargo passed through the port and we have received 1.7 million containers compared  to last year where we received only 1.1 million containers," said Mturi.

Mturi added that over 7 million tonnes  were transported from the port of Mombasa to other countries and that they are expecting to receive 1.14 million containers before the end of this financial year.

Very soon KPA is set to open gate number that is that is supposed to receive bigger ships; so as to improve services at the port.

This also  comes after KPA chairman Marsden Madoka had earlier this year said that all Container Freight Stations (CFS) will soon be closed as all cargo will be cleared at the port and not at the CFSs.
