Residents of Lolwe Estate in Kisumu county have faulted the Kenya Power and Lighting Company over frequent power cuts in the area. According to the residents, the irregular power interruptions has negatively affected their businesses.
While speaking to this writer on Sunday, the residents said that the power outages usually come without warning.
"In other places, we see KPLC put adverts in the newspapers warning people about power outages, but we never see it in our case," said Paul Ocholla, a resident from the area.
"My business largely depends on the supply of electricity which should be constant, but of late, i have been losing customers in my barber shop due to the frequent blackouts," said Bramwel Ombeva, another resident from the area.
According to the residents, it is absurd for the area to have no electricity yet the neighbouring areas have power. They said that the power outages are mostly experienced during the day when most businesses are open. They are now calling on the power supplying company to be mindful of their welfare before disrupting electricity supply without warning since they pay their electricity bills on time.
Efforts to get a comment from the KPLC office in Kisumu were futile as the concerned personnel was not available.
