According to the Kenya Union of Small-scale Tea Owners (KUSSTO), the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) management deducts some cash without consulting farmers, something that is making them to constantly encounter losses.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kisii town KUSSTO members led by Richard Nyatiro urged the management to always consult farmers before making any decisions so that both parties can be in agreement.

“We have been in the dark as tea farmers but this is the time we need to stand up for our rights,” said Nyatiro.

In addition, he said the management deducts some money on a monthly basis as per the kilograms each farmer has harvested. Something they also do at the end of every year.
