In an effort to boost police and residents cooperation in the fight against crime, Lari OCS Peter Ouko has launched a campaign dubbed Ushirikiano to help realise the objective.
Speaking to residents on Tuesday at Lari chief's camp during a public baraza, the OCS said lack of cooperation between the two was the main factor hindering the fight against crime.
He said the campaign is aimed at creating a good relationship between the police and residents so that the war on crime can be successful.
The police boss said he has received several complaints from residents that some officers were very arrogant and ignorant whenever they are given information on any criminal act.
"In this campaign, we will be conducting a public baraza every last Saturday of the month from 12 noon where we will give residents an opportunity to express their concerns on security so that the police can take action,’’ said Ouko.
He also said disciplinary action will be taken against any officer who ignores a tip off from a residents.
Ouko said some residents are hesitant about reporting issues because they fear they will be arrested as suspects.
"I want to assure you that you will not be arrested or harassed by any officer when you report of any incident. That way, we are hoping to create a good bond that will help in the fight against crime," he added.
However, the OCS applauded the efforts by the nyumba kumi initiative in the area stating it has played a big role in fighting crime.
