Limuru Administration Police (AP) Commandant Michael Ndegwa has put criminals on notice, saying they will be smoked out of their hideouts.

The AP commandant said that police have stepped up efforts in the pursuit of criminals allegedly causing havoc in some areas.

Addressing journalists at Limuru police station on Tuesday, the AP commandant said that criminals have nowhere to hide.

“As law enforcers we are going to hunt down and smoke out criminals gangs causing havoc in some villages,” he said.

He urged residents to cooperate with the police as they fight criminal elements.

This comes after police shot dead a suspected robber at Tiekenu village in Ndeiya ward, Limuru Sub-County on Monday after a failed robbery attempt.

According to the police, the suspect was gunned down after he and three others engaged the police in a shoot out.

Confirming the incident, Ndegwa said that the suspect together with three others had raided a businessman's home and tried to steal valuables before an alarm was raised.

The AP commandant said that the suspects tied up the watchman before trying to access the business man's house.

He said the watchman however raised alarm attracting police who were on patrol.

The commandant stated that a manhunt for the two suspects who escaped was immediately launched.

Last week police in Kamirithu village in Limuru area arrested a couple in connection to theft of household goods. The stolen household items were discovered in the couple’s house as residents decried rising cases of their houses being broken into.
