A middle aged man who has been receiving money from Limuru residents falsely for pretending to be a beggar was on Monday sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
Richard Mutiso who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Timothy Ole Tanchu was found guilty of fraud.
The charge sheet read that on October 7 this year, Mutiso was arrested by police in Limuru town after some vendors who had known his fake tricks tipped the police.
Police found him begging at Limuru bus terminus.
According to the charge sheet, the accused had a manila paper that described his disability and it read that he needed urgent medication abroad that cost Sh3.5 million.
During the arrest, he was also found with Sh700 that he had collected during the day.
He was taken to Limuru police station and charged with fraud as he was faking being a beggar.
The prosecution also told the court that the man had been arrested and charged a year ago with the same account and released on a Sh10,000 fine.
Mutiso in his mitigation pleaded that poverty was the main cause of him indulging in the business as he had a family that solely depended on him.
He pleaded with the court to forgive him, promising not to go back to the illegal act.
Magistrate Ole Tanchu in his judgement said that being the second time appearing in court for the same account, the accused had not learnt from his mistakes.
"I hereby sentence the accused person for 5 years in prison. You have 14 days to appeal," ruled Ole Tanchu.
