Residents of Machakos county have been urged to raise their voices and criticise lazy leaders in order to foster development in the county.
Speaking from his office on Monday, the deputy governor of Machakos Bernard Kiala said that it was the people's responsibility to keep the leaders on their toes with regards to doing their jobs of serving the people. Kiala said that within the county, there are underdeveloped areas for example but the residents from those areas don't complain or question their leaders about the same.
"If you won't raise your voices and demand for action from your leaders, this area will continue to remain behind in terms of development," said Kiala.
"It is not bad to listen to the promises of aspirants during campaigns but also remember to demand for accountability after they are elected so that they can fulfil their promises," he added.
He further reminded the people that they have a responsibility to play a part in devolution whereby they have a right for example to know how much projects cost and if the said amounts are well utilised by the relevant authorities.
