Residents of Kangundo and Matungulu Sub-Counties have been warned against employing minors, as it is a crime punishable by law.
Speaking in her office on Thursday, Kangundo Sub-County Children Officer Susan Ouma said that many people have been employing kids who are under the age of 18 years.
Ouma said that a child who has not yet reached the age of 18 years should be in class studying and not in some place being subjected to labour.
The children officer said she had received reports of children being employed in quarries especially in Syanthi area.
"Child labour should not be tolerated as it undermines children rights,” said Ouma.
The officer said that anyone who will be found culpable of the act will face the law accordingly.
She further urged residents to report such cases to the relevant authorities.
