Youth in Mombasa have asked the county government to make youth funds more accessible, as many young people are languishing in poverty due to unemployment.

Speaking during the launch of Nyali Sub-County in Mombasa on Tuesday, Mombasa County youth representative Patrick Gitau said it is difficult to access the funds from the county offices.

“It would be better if the government made the procedure of obtaining funds easy, as many youth give up before receiving the funds,” said Mr Gitau.

He also raised concerns over bursary allocations in the area, claiming that the allocations are not being done in a fair manner.

He said that some youth have complained of discrimination when applying for the funds.

The Mombasa County Assembly, which will resume this week, is set to tackle some of the bills the assembly is optimistic of passing, which include a revolving fund which is meant to help citizens.

“The revolving fund is aimed at helping locals especially the youth who cannot access other funds,” said Portreiez MCA Fadhili Mwalimu.
