A Makongeni based businessman was on Tuesday arraigned in Thika law courts to answer to charges of defilement.
Before the Senior Principal Magistrate Abdul Kadir, Ezekiel Mbugua a husband and a father of one was accused of defiling a two-year-old girl on January 7, 2016 at Makongeni Phase 6.
According to the charge sheet, the accused who operates a shop in the girl's neighborhood lured the minor into his shop and later defiled her in his bed contrary to Sexual Offences Act of 2006.
Mbugua's lawyer requested the court to fix the case hearing to a later date saying that he needed more time to prepare for the case and as he had just taken it from another lawyer. Dorothy Aswani, the prosecution lawyer, had no objection to the postponement.
"The prosecution has no objection to this arrangement. However, we would like the court to expedite the matter in the best interest of the minor," Aswan said.
The magistrate fixed the case hearing to March 24 where the minor will testify through an intermediary due to her young age.
On the other hand the accused was released on Sh300,000 bond and a surety of the same amount.
