A 32-year-old man was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment after court found him guilty of murdering his brother.

The Kikuyu Law Courts handed Stephen Kimani the sentence after it was found he murdered Thomas Mwai on June 3, in Kinoo, Kiambu County.

The two are said to have engaged in a tussle over a piece of land that was to be inherited from their father in Kinoo sub county.

The charge sheet read by prosecution said on JUne 3, the accused person poisoned his older brother causing his death.

The court had listened to a prosecution witness, Jane Nyamwea who worked at the accused's home.

She told court that on that day after the accused committed the act, he threatened her not to say what he had done.

She said the accused also told her to live the compound.

She explained that at this time he spoke to her, he had already committed the act.

In his plea, Mr Kimani said he did not do the act intentionally.

He said on that day he was drunk and did not know what he was doing.

He pleaded to be forgiven since he was the sole bread winner in the home.

Chief Magistrate James Ogweno however, said the court had found the accused guilty and therefore sentenced him to life imprisonment.

He was given 14 days to appeal.
