DPP, Keriako Tobiko says more than 370 cases are lying in the courts unresolved. The cases are those of corruption and economic crimes.
The pending cases according to the DPP are delaying graft cases. The cases involve 88 cases that mention some former senior officials in the counties and the national government. The delays have been brought about by some of the defendants skipping court days leading to the postponement of the case hearing.
Tobiko said that most of these cases will, however, be heard in March, revealing that such cases will involve the Anglo-leasing scandal. He said the case involving the former CS, David Mwiraria will be heard on March 28-31, 2016.
Other former government officials who will be in court in March to defend themselves are Gladys Shollei , Amos Kimunya , Nelson Githinji, Chris Obura and Peter Mangiti being charged over corruption or economic crimes. Shollei will, however, be charged with abuse of power and will appear in court in May.
Kibera residents want these cases to be quickly heard and penalties wil be given to the guilty officials.
Moses Mwangi said this is the only way to get justice.
Hosea Wafula, on the other hand, said the defendants should not give any excuses of not showing up in court.
