Masinga residents on Saturday benefited from an agricultural seminar organised by the county administration in Masinga Town.

Dr Jonathan Nzuma, an agricultural specialist, advised the residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant crops that can withstand heavy rains in a bid to avoid incurring losses.

"Farmers should ensure they cultivate crops that can withstand heavy rains and those that take a short while to mature so that they are assured of a good harvest after the rains,” said Nzuma.

He also advised the residents to plant mangoes and trees for timber as they can withstand heavy rains.

Dr Nzuma also urged the residents to plant green grams adding that the crop is likely to do well in the Ukambani soils during the rainy season.

“Residents should consider planting green grams as they have an available market and also fetch farmers good returns,” said Nzuma.
