Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has decried teacher absenteeism saying it is affecting performance especially in public schools.
Speaking Wednesday at Mitihani House when he released the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination results, the CS said public schools have performed poorly and thus there is a need to deal with teacher absenteeism with utmost urgency.
""Time is here today to deal with issues facing the Education sector. These problems should be handled at the county level. Each county should deal with its own irregularities," he said.
The CS also said noted that gender parity has been achieved adding that the female candidates performed better in languages.
However, he said cheating has been denting the image of the education sector and must be dealt with.
In his speech, the minister mentioned that form one selection will commence on January 21 where he said he will engage the private sector to address their concerns and ensure fairness in the process.
