Matuu town residence and business owners on Tuesday demonstrated along the town streets complaining over the Kenya Power's poor supply of electricity in the town.
The business people led by Patrick Kyalo who is the secretary general of the 'Member of Commerce', an organisation of business persons said that the frequent lack of power has become a menace in the town for the last 3 weeks tracing it back to the onset of the prevailing heavy rains.
"We are calling upon the Kenya Power Lighting Company to take action immediately to restore good power flow because most of the businesses in the area which depend on electricity are now facing losses due to the consistent blackouts," said Kyalo.
Kyalo said that KPLC should put up enough power transformers to ensure sufficient power supply in Matuu because the residents pay power bills in time and should be served sufficiently.
He also emphasised that the business people need the power back as soon as possible to restore their business operations because some operate on loans which need to be paid back. Others also depend on their businesses as the main source of their income which they use to feed their families, pay school fees and rent and the power unreliability is inconveniencing them.
