Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua has been summoned by a Senate Committee on Legal Affairs over allegations that he is using a municipal court to harass traders and local leaders.
The Senate committee summoned Mbugua after Nominated MCA Margaret Kiiru wrote to it complaining that the court was being used by the governor to torment hawkers and leaders in the county.
The National Alliance party MCA further claimed that the court, established after 2013 general elections, was being used to detain leaders and extort money especially from youth and women doing business in the town on behalf of the county government as was the case when hawkers were evicted from the town centre.
The ward representative further requested the Senate to investigate how revenue collected by the court was being used.
Both City and Municipal courts were rendered obsolete following a repeal of the local government act after the promulgation of the constitution in 2010.
