The Nakuru government has donated 150 mattresses to Mai Mahiu Boys Secondary School in fulfillment of an earlier promise in November by deputy Governor Joseph Rutto.
The school's dormitory was gutted by fire in November and whose cause is still under investigation.
During his visit, Rutto promised to work together with the school in getting the school's activities back on track.
Speaking during the event on Wednesday, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who was also accompanied by County Executive member for Education Francis Mathea, said the county government will help the school recover from the loss.
Kinuthia, however, asked the national government, to fully devolve the education sector on grounds that the county government is better placed to initiate the much needed change in public institutions.
“The national government should fast-track the devolution of the remaining education functions more so on infrastructure development as the county government is near to the people and better suited to understand their needs,” he said.
He added that his government has the capacity to govern institutions of learning that are currently under the jurisdiction of the national government.
The governor noted that his government has so far built a total of 500 early childhood development education centres which is remarkable progress in education.
