East Seme Member of County Assembly Aggrey Ogosi has accused Kisumu County Executive of promoting wasted of public resiources through inflated tenders.

Ogosi said the executive has failed to put up structures to monitor the expenses which have led to loss of money through projects which do not match their costs.

Speaking in Seme where he witnessed the commissioning of two classrooms funded by French Government at a cost of Sh2.3 million at Kit Mikayi Technical Training Institute.

“Currently the county government is funding ECDE classrooms at a cost of Sh2.5 million per room. Compared to what we have seen here it is clear manifestation of corruption and waste of resources,” he said.

He added: “Our work as the assembly is to approve the budget, and it is upon the executive which does the implementation of the projects to ensure that the cost of projects is not inflated to deny the people quality for their money.”

Ogosi called on Governor Jack Ranguma to intervene and engage the technical experts in evaluating and monitoring projects funded by the county government so as to reduce the wastage.

“I remember when President Obama came to Kenya, he noted that 250,000 jobs can be created in the country if we did away with corruption. It is true that corruption is killing the country and it has since been devolved into the counties. We have to do something to save the public resources,” he said.
