Kwa Rhonda MCA John Macharia has expressed his gratitude after Nakuru County government moved in and offered material support to more than 50 families that were displaced by the on-going El Nino rains.

Speaking on Wednesday after making a stopover near Moi Kibowen Komen Primary School where the flood evictees are seeking refuge, Macharia said it was a move to the right direction in the county’s efforts in dealing with disasters and natural calamities.

“My people are contented with our government’s efforts especially after they responded on time after their plight was highlighted,” he said.

The MCA asked residents to support the present administration led by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua saying a majority of leaders were committed to making their lives better.

Macharia is on the record for being a staunch advocator of human rights having been involved in various demonstrations even before he was elected into office and believes in leadership that improves people’s livelihoods.

More than 200 families were rendered homeless in the informal settlement two weeks ago after their houses were swept away by the heavy rains and have been camping at the school ever since.

On Monday, a high profile county government team led by Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Executive Richard Rop saw the families being given mattresses, blankets, foodstuff and clothing, a gesture Macharia believes is geared towards serving everybody equally without discrimination.
