An MCA has told Governor Jack ranguma to expedite the establishment of a metro-police to complement the job of the National Police Service in the region and curb crime.

Ahero Ward Representative Onyango Aloo said the establishment of the metropolice had taken long yet security is still an issue in Kisumu City.

“Mombasa is a good example of a county that has one and it is very effective, Ranguma should emulate the same,” said Aloo.

He was speaking at the County Assembly when the house was discussing the governor’s speech delivered during the reopening of the third County Assembly after a long recess.

In his speech, Ranguma said he had made security a priority and was proud to announce that through collaboration with the National Government’s security agencies, the crime rate in Kisumu has now gone down.

At one time it threatened to spiral out of control but now, it is at the lowest.

He commended the brave, dedicated, and well trained men and women of the National Police Service Commission for their tireless efforts to combat crime.

"Special recognition goes to our QRT for their success in apprehending dangerous criminals. We recognise that security is an important determinant in securing investments. The challenge still exists in negative behavior of the people, but indeed getting better," Ranguma said.

In September last year, the murder cases were plus two up, robbery cases were also plus two up, and kidnapping were also plus two up. Most of the other crimes were plus 10 up.

As from January 10th todate, however, major crimes are down to zero, and only assault and burglary still continue.
