Outgoing CIC chairperson should back governor James Ongwae reelection bid in 2017 as a show of unity and respect that the community showed his father Simon Nyachae when he ran for presidential elections in 2002, two MCAs have said.

Charles Nyachae has been tipped for years to challenge governor James Ongwae and is expected to increase his inroads to the region after his term at CIC expired recently.

Speaking at Sameta ward on Monday, Sameta MCA Evans Siko and his Chitago-Borabu counterpart Albert Oino said the community had supported the Nyachae family before and they expected a favor in return by supporting Ongwae’s administration.

“Personally I don’t see the reason why Charles (Nyachae) should run in 2017. Ongwae supported fully the father in 2002 and it will be inhuman for him to run against the person who has before supported their family. We have made it clear that if he wants to join politic, then not the gubernatorial seat,” Siko said.

Oino on his part said leadership in the county was not a monarchy and warned Mr Charles Nyachae of any attempt to topple Mr. Ongwae.

“We are not a monarchy where people from certain families want to rule forever. They should know that we have some other people who can equally do the job. We have heard of Nyachae family for years and I think if they had something positive to do for the community, they should have done that many years ago. It’s time for different people and after all Ongwae is doing well,” he said.

If Nyachae joins gubernatorial seat, he will join South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya in the race to topple Ongwae come 2017.
