Residents of Membley estate in Gitothua Ward, Ruiru Sub-County have appealed to the county government to improve drainage system in the area.

The residents raised concerns, terming the drainage systems in the area as wanting.

According to the residents, the recent rains that have been pounding the area have led to blockage of drainage systems.

The locals say that the situation will worsen if the rains continue.

“The drainage system in this area is poor and we are urging the government to come to our rescue by addressing the issue,” said Florence Karanu, a resident.

Ms Karanu noted that most drainage systems in the area are blocked, and spill waste on roads in the estate.

The Membley estate residents said that they fear for their health if appropriate measures are not taken urgently.

They urged their area Ward Representative Patrick Chege to take up the matter with the county officials.

Speaking on Coro FM on Friday morning, Kiambu County Executive for Roads and Transport Eng Njeri Gatabaki said that the government had embarked on renovation of drainage systems across the county.

The CeC said proper drainage and waste management systems are being put in place to ensure residents live in a clean environment.

She however cautioned residents against disposing waste into drainage systems and instead urged them adopt proper means of waste disposal.
