In its effort to enhance consumer protection, the Ministry of Health is set to come up with an SMS platform that will enable members of the public to know whether their health care service providers are duly registered.
Speaking on Friday during a meeting with the parliamentary health committee in Mombasa, Health CS Dr Cleopa Mailu said they will be able to set up the platform with the help of the Medical Practitioners Board.
“One will be required to send a message in order to receive information from the board on whether your service provider is a registered doctor or not. If he or she is a quack, then you will be able to pursue the matter further," said Dr Mailu.
He further added that the same platform will be used by the Pharmacy and Poisons' Board, to detect any fake medicine or pharmacists in the market.
The number of quack doctors has been on the rise in the country with the likes of Dr Mugo Wairimu, who was accused of sexually abusing his patients.
