The move by former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to venture into politics has attracted mixed reactions among locals in Kiambu town.

While there are those lauding the move by Waiguru to venture into politics there are those who are opposed to the idea.

Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday in Kiambu town, Anne Njeri, a resident lauded the Waiguru’s move saying that it will help advance the development agenda she had while serving as CS.

Ms Njeri said that Waiguru had a vision for the youth, women and persons living with disabilities.

“It is a good step for Waiguru to venture into politics because she has the qualities of a leader and apart from that she has a heart for women and youth,” said Ms Njeri.

Christine Wachira, a counselor said Waiguru’s move to join politics should be supported by all women.

She said that it is time women ventured actively into politics since the Constitution provides for equal representation.

On the other hand a section of residents feel that Waiguru’s decision to venture into politics could affect her career.

Benjamin Otwala , a resident in Kiambu resident said that Waiguru’s past development agenda could be tainted by politics.

He observed that while women are encouraged to vie for political seats the current environment does not favour Waiguru.

“We know that Waiguru is a technocrat and has little experience on matters politics, it will take time for her to understand how politics is played,” said Mr Otwala.

Waiguru on Monday announced her intentions to seek election as Nairobi governor on a Jubilee Party ticket. In a meeting held in Nairobi on Monday and attended by Jubilee Party officials, Waiguru said that she is ready to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
