Honourable Rachel Nduku, the Mlolongo Member of County Assembly on Wednesday highly discouraged settlement along the area rivers claiming that they obstruct rain water from entering the rivers and instead lead the water to streets and residences.
Speaking to the press outside her office just a day after heavy floods were experienced which swept houses and even led to death of a 26-year old woman in Kicheko village in Mlolongo ward, Nduku was against cultivation along the river banks too.
"I am warning those who purchase land for cultivation along the river banks to stop it and I also urge those who have established settlement along the rivers to vacate immediately in order to avoid risking their lives," said Nduku.
She also warned people who live in the rental houses along the same areas to vacate too. Nduku also called upon officers from the National Construction Authorities to inspect the buildings built in such areas to ensure that they could withstand the prevailing heavy rains.
She also asked them not to approve any further construction of building of rental houses along the rivers.
