Mlolongo Location Chief David Kilonzo on Tuesday advised residents living near water bodies like rivers or swamps, which are considered to be flood prone areas, to relocate to safer grounds.

This comes a day after floods swept Kicheko village leaving one woman dead and residents displaced.

"Please do not ignore the advise leaders are giving residents because you witnessed the damage that heavy rains can cause. Residents living near water bodies are risking their lives since such areas are likely to experience floods,” said Kilonzo.

Kilonzo said that the Machakos County government had set aside Sh300 million for El Nino mitigation, adding that residents who will be affected by the heavy rains will receive assistance.
