As the planting season is fast closing in, farmers in Molo are an unhappy lot due what they termed as high prices for seeds and fertilizers in the town.
The farmers said the hiked prices may derail their efforts to plant in time.
"A 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser is retailing at Sh3,200 while a 2kg bag of maize seeds is going for Sh360, prices which are too high," said Michael Wanjau, from Turi.
"If the prices remain high, we may not plant in time. I am considering planting using maize seeds from my previous harvest and without fertiliser," lamented Kamau Wang'ombe.
The farmers are now calling on the government to avail subsidised fertiliser and seeds to ease the burden on them.
"Last year the government provided fertiliser at subsidised costs, we are asking it to equally provide this year so that we may plant before the onset of the rains," said Mama Nyokabi.
