The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Kenyan government is set to build up five cancer centres in the country.
The decision which was made on Friday will see the centres set up to help address cancer cases in the country. The centres will be set up in Mombasa, Kisii, Kisumu, Nakuru and Nyeri.
The already existing cancer treatment centres at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital will also be expanded according to the ministry.
Much effort is being put to boost the health of Kenyans as the government also agreed to fund up the Kenyatta National Hospital so that it can set up more critical care units.
The CS for Health, Kilonzo Mailu said the units will be important since they will help reduce death of patients with critical ailments. He promised that the ministry will distribute 100 ICU beds across the country.
Cancer cases have become rampant in the country. Many people realise they have the disease after it has already gone way too far to be treated. Kenyans are now being advised to undergo cancer screening often so that if it is detected earlier, it can be cured easily.
