West Mugirango University and College students association have raised an alarm over the failure by the constituency’s leadership to allocate bursaries for needy and vulnerable students from the region.
Speaking during a luncheon meeting on Tuesday in Kisii, the association led by Chairman Brian Mamboleo noted that many needy students in the institutions of higher learning were struggling to continue with their education due to lack of support from CDF money.
They issued a two weeks ultimatum to area MP James Gesami to authorise the allocation of money to more than 500 students in universities and another 1000 in middle-level colleges failure to which they will paralyse operations at the constituency’s headquarters in Nyamira.
"We are very concerned that the constituency leadership is unable to allocate money to needy students," said Mamboleo.
"This has resulted in a number of us dropping out of institutions because we cannot be able to cater for our school fee,” he added.
"We are giving the constituency leadership an ultimatum of two weeks to ensure all students in universities and middle-level colleges receive the funding failure to which we will force the closure of their offices till they comply,” he added.
They directed their anger to area Mp James Gesami by accusing him of failing to act despite promising to comply during an annual meeting in November 2015.
"We held a meeting in November and it’s sad that the MP has done nothing to change the situation. Some of us are likely to continue suffering because exams are approaching," said Mamboleo.
Efforts to reach Gesami for comment were futile since he could neither answer calls nor text messages for the better part of Tuesday.
