A group of dairy farmers from Borabu have hailed area MP Ben Momanyi following the construction of boreholes worth Sh10 million across three wards in the former settlement scheme.

The MP initiated the project in Mekenene, Esise and Nyansiongo wards to help dairy farmers’ access water easily during dry spells.

Led by Vincent Momanyi, the residents said the initiative will improve milk production which is a major economic activity in the region.

“Many of residents here are dairy farmers and we make a livelihood from it. The bore holes are important because as farmers, we will be able to access water, especially during dry spells," Said Momanyi.

"This is set to improve our productivity in the next months and we really appreciate the MP on this memorable project,” he added.

They also welcomed renovation of ten cattle dips in the region saying the move will drastically reduce the cost used in the treatment of dairy cows.

"We have lacked cattle dips for over two decades now but we are happy with a number of them having been renovated," stated Momanyi.

"The MP has done a great job in the few years he has been in office. We will no longer incur costs in maintaining the health of our dairy cows,” he added.

The farmers, however, challenged the county government of Nyamira to construct a milk processing factory to avoid losing revenue to the neighboring Bomet County.

“Borabu alone is able to produce the right quantity of milk that can feed a processing plant. Nyamira County should initiate construction of a milk processing plant to give chances for locals to benefit," Said Momanyi.

"Otherwise our economy will continue lagging behind and we will always play second fiddle to our neighbors in Bomet,” he added.
