Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa says he will be part of the group of leaders travelling to The Netherlands for the Assembly of State Parties meeting which starts on Wednesday.
The ASP is the International Criminal Court’s management and legislative body and comprises states that have ratified or acceded to the Rome Statute
Kenya has two requests to the ASP but is facing opposition from international organisations among them the Human Rights Watch, International Federation for Human Rights and Amnesty International among others.
Ichungwa who spoke at the St Mark’s ACK Kidfarmaco Church in Kikuyu on Sunday, also apologised for not attending the church’s harambee held the previous Sunday.
He said he was attending prayers for Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang in Nyandarua County. The two have cases at the ICC.
The MP donated Sh300, 000 towards the church project of acquiring land.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker said Kikuyu was developing at a fast rate citing the real estate sector.
“This is not the Kikuyu of yesterday. Many people have constructed rental flats and homes, resulting in an increase in population,” said Ichungwa.
He said because of the increased population, the area needed a supportive sewer line for all homes and institutions.
He also said when he was taking up the leadership of the constituency, there were only two dispensaries but he had managed to construct “four more health units”.
The final stretch of the southern bypass, constructed under the national government, ends at Gitaru area in Kikuyu.
The bypass is another development that has transformed the constituency, increasing flow of traffic and changing the landscape.
