Molo MP Jacob Macharia has unveiled a new interactive platform on social media with the aim of increasing interaction between him and the electorate.

Through a Facebook a post, he has dedicated Monday evenings from 8:30pm to an interactive programme dubbed Molo Live Chat which he said so far has proved to be worthwhile.

In an exclusive interview with this writer on Wednesday, the lawmaker said he resolved to use social media as it has the power to reach out to masses.

“Social media is a powerful channel for information sharing and also sharing of ideas which are critical in development. The live chat has so far captured the real aspects that residents feel they want a change and also they have given credit where it deserves,” he said.

Among key things that Molo residents have had conversations on through the live chat include farming, infrastructure and access to clean water.

He explained that use of social media should be embraced by leaders in bringing transformative change to their constituents.

Macharia also said it will enlighten residents on the mandate of the national and county governments, especially on matters infrastructure as roads is a devolved function.

“Knowledge is power and with devolution in place, there are people who do not know what the county government does and the role of an MP. Through the live chat, we will educate them and also let them talk of what they would want us to do for them,” he said.
