Subukia legislator Nelson Ributhi Gaichuhie has announced he will roll out a massive campaign to fight illicit brews in the area in the next few weeks.
Gaichuhie who spoke in his constituency on Monday, said some parts of Subukia have been destroyed by illicit brewing despite efforts made by the public to fight the vice last year.
“Illicit brews and what is called second generation spirits are back in Subukia but this time round, I will make sure that it ends completely because we cannot have our youths’ future ruined any longer,” said Gaichuhie.
He said youths who had reformed have fallen back to drinking as brewers have resumed their trade once again.
The MP attributed the resurgence of the brews in the area to a cartel that has corrupted authorities and are allowed to do their business without any arrest being made.
He said this time round, he will ensure all pubs selling second generation spirits are shut down completely.
“Those who are selling second generation spirits have some force behind them that is bending the law but once this campaign starts, all those pubs will be closed down and we will make sure that they never open here in Subukia,” said he.
He appealed for coordination from members of the public and local authority and urged them not to relent in the war against illicit brew.
