Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo has urged youth, women and people living with disability to apply for county tenders.
Koyoo said the national and county governments have allocated 30 per cent of tenders to marginalised groups.
He urged youths to not only rely on tenders reserved for them but explore bigger ones through competitive bidding to get resources that will improve their welfare.
Speaking on Wednesday in Muhoroni town, he urged women and youth to register their companies before applying for the tenders.
“The county government has given the youth an opportunity to apply for the tenders, this will empower them economically and financially," he said.
He also called on youth, women and the disabled to apply for Uwezo Fund.
The MP noted they are not aggressively seeking the funds and business opportunities the government has set aside for them.
The national and county governments have opportunities to empower women at the grassroots which they should take advantage of, Koyoo added.
He disclosed that the county government is now educating youth and women groups on how to apply for the funds.
“We have put in place measures to ensure that women and youth benefit from the 30 per cent government rule on tenders,” the legislature said.
He added; “It is up to the women and youth to ensure they apply for these tenders.”
He said they are also engaging the private sector to start giving women and youth opportunities to apply for tenders in their companies.
Koyoo said both the public and private sectors will only take them serious if they have established and registered their groups with relevant authorities.
He urged women not to stay at home waiting for their husbands to provide for them and take up the challenge to apply for funds.
He noted that the contest for government tenders has denied many youths, women and disabled people the opportunity to secure tenders.
