Nyamira County MPs who have been critical of governor John Nyagarama's leadership seem to have changed their tone after pledging to support the governor for the sake of development.
The relationship between the county boss and other area leaders has not been rosy, with at least four leaders reported not to have met him since 2013 polls.
Speaking on Saturday at Nyamwanga region in Kitutu Masaba, Timothy Bosire, who has been leading insurgency against the governor led three other leaders in announcing their support to the county leadership.
Bosire said his team was ready to meet the governor to discuss issues affecting the county.
“For the sake of Nyamira people, I have convinced my team and they have agreed to meet him (Nyagarama). We have to discuss issues affecting our people and draw a common plan of improving our region,” he said.
He said the move will ensure that the area leadership discusses development agendas as a team to avoid wastage of public resources by avoiding duplication of projects.
“The governor controls county funds and we control Constituencies Development Fund (CDF). If we speak in one voice we can see tremendous development by using the limited resources wisely,” he added.
His North Mugirango counterpart Charles Geni said time for hard political stands was over and urged the county leadership to engage in consultations with other elected leaders.
“It's our people who are affected when we engage in political wars. We can solve that by holding talks,” he said.
Nyagarama’s leadership has been under immense pressure from the elected leaders.
