A Mombasa court has issued orders to remand Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) Chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi in police custody, pending his case hearing.

Mr Mwamnuadzi was arraigned before the court on Monday after he was arrested on Sunday night at his Ng’ombeni home in Kwale.

Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai issued the orders to remand the suspect following an application by State Counsel George Mungai.

The accused is facing three charges of allegedly being a member of an organised criminal group, illegally contributing and receiving money and incitement to violence.

During the hearing, investigating officer Stephen Muli asked the court to give him more time to complete his investigations against the accused.

Mr Mwamnuadzi was allegedly found in possession of Sh210,200 for furthering MRC activities and was also found with documents with the words 'Pwani Si Kenya' written on them.

The investigating officer in his request said Mr Mwamnuadzi who is out on bond in a similar case will interfere with the investigations if he is released on bond.

Mr Mwamnuadzi who denied the charges opposed the application by Mr Muli saying he has never skipped a case hearing.

He further claimed the he was sick and needed medical attention after the police beat him up when he was arrested.

Magistrate Mutai allowed the application by the prosecution and ordered for the accused to be remanded at Kwale Police Station.

The magistrate further ordered that Mr Mwamnuadzi should be given medical treatment or allowed to meet his personal doctor.

The case will be mentioned on January 29, 2016.
