Mwea residents in Gatundu North sub county have been warned against littering carelessly in their township to prevent the outbreak of airborne related diseases. The warning is as a result of a pile up of litter in Mwea township despite the existence of litter bins in the area.

Giving the warning from the town on Wednesday, Mwea assistant chief Elius Njau noted that littering the town was a social ill that could lead to the outbreak of cholera and typhoid noting that residents had the responsibility of keeping their town clean.

Njau warned that he will soon engage the environment department in the area to arrest hotel owners and shop owners who dispose their waste carelessly in the town.

"The litter in Mwea has been occasioned by poor management of waste products from shops and hotels operating within the town. I will soon engage the environment department from this area to find out ways of bringing back sanity to this environment sanity. It’s however everyone’s responsibility to keep the environment clean," he said.

Njau on another note further revealed that Mwea had received two additional police officers to help in curbing crime activities in the area.
