Residents of Mwembe Estate are complaining about the dilapidated state of their drainage systems.
The residents are disgusted by the horrible condition of the drainage systems on Mwembe- Kisii road and Kisii - main Campus road.
The ditches were dug by runoff water since the onset of the El-Nino rains late last year. The ditches are extremely deep and pose a threat to human life and also to livestock as they graze beside these roads.
According to the residents, the system was not fitted with gabions to control soil erosion hence this mess. The three metres ditch has been covered with grass which makes it very difficult to spot which is not a good thing. Residents are worried for school going children because of their playful nature, they would easily fall into the ditch.
''This hole is so deep. We can even lose our own children who may be curious about it. During the rains, the trench looks like a waterfall," said Maureen Kwamboka, a resident in the area.
The residents now want the responsible department in the county government to renovate the systems to avoid any possible accidents.
