Nakuru Government through a partnership with the Within Foundation has developed the Nakuru Integrated Development Project, a flagship project geared towards achieving multiple initiatives in the county.
The Gitiri Dam Water Complex Project between Nakuru and Nyandarua counties is one of the major flagship projects under the NIDP intended to achieve the possibilities of water sharing between the two governments.
Speaking during a meeting with Nyandarua Governor Daniel Mwangi Waithaka on Wednesday, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua lauded the project as a first in the country saying it will be of mutual benefit to both counties and a major tone for shared prosperity and development.
"I foresee the possibilities of development of a hydroelectric power station establishment as water from Gitiri dam flows downward to Nakuru County. This is because the force of the waters can be utilised to power hydroelectric turbines thus creating a power generating solution by both Counties towards the National power grid."
He said both counties view this partnership as a realistic outcome of the water project and will keep it in focus once the project is fully established.
Other officials at the meeting included Nakuru and Nyandarua County ministers, some MCAs from both counties and the Within Foundation team led by the chief executive officer Gatheca Kamau.
