A Kisii county based Non-Governmental Organization(NGO) has donated washable hygiene sanitary pads kits to deaf school girls from Kisii School For the Deaf-Misisita in Kisii South Sub-County to ensure that the girls will not miss school during their monthly menstrual cycles in the future.

Sacred Centre for Orphans and Widows (NGO) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Gutwa has disclosed that his organisation is providing school girls with washable feminine hygiene kits as part of empowering them to continue with their education instead of skipping classes during their menstrual cycles due to lack of reliable sanitary towels.

Speaking at the Kisii School for the Deaf on Friday after the donations, Gutwa observed that the pads keep girls in school to ensure that they compete favourably with their male counterparts.

“According to the UNESCO, 5 out of 10 girls in Kenya lack access to pads; not having access to pads can have a big impact on education hence translating to poor performance,” stated Gutwa.

Gutwa clarified that the kits will be shipped to the country by donor partners based in the USA and are named after Days for Girls International (NGO) whose initiative is to restore girls and women’s education, health and dignity across the world.

“Days for Girls kits are washable with little water, dry easily, and last for up to three years making them friendly to the girls and the environment," said Gutwa.
