Boda boda operators in Kibera who run night shifts have a reason to smile due to the huge profits they rake in.
Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Edwin Ngoge who operates the Yaya–Laini Saba–Mashimoni areas said he doubles his charges during the night hence the huge profits.
“During the night, it is hard to get vehicles especially at midnight. As boda boda riders, we enjoy the huge profits we make. For instance, if a passenger hires me from here Laini saba to Yaya at midnight, he/she will pay me between Sh400 and Sh600 depending unlike during the day where I charge only Sh100 and Sh200. Also at night there are no traffic officers who may interfere with the speeding unlike during the day,” said Ngoge.
Jared Machuka said despite the risks involved in the night business such as attack from gangs and the cold, he fetches huge profits.
“I am used to this night shift business and rest during the day. I love my job which I have done for the past five years now which makes me provide food to my three children and my wife,”added Jared.
