The fight against illicit brew is far from over. This is according to Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha who warned merchants of the illegal trade to brace themselves for an impending bruising crackdown.
Speaking on Tuesday, Nkanatha admitted that several parts of the county had started witnessing the re-emergence of the brew business, a factor he linked to the prevailing lax of security enforcers.
“We already have reports that some unscrupulous businessmen are secretly trying to introduce illicit brews especially in Molo, parts of Njoro and some parts of Nakuru town. Let me warn them that we are aware and we are soon coming there to destroy their dens," he warned.
He added that he would pick the mantle from where his predecessor Mohammed Birik left so as to rid the county of the menace.
Mid this year, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked leaders to spearhead a campaign against illicit brews and destroy second generation liquor which has resulted in the death of dozens of Kenyans over the years.
