Police in Kiambu have launched investigations into the burning of a section and demolitions of traders' stalls at Thika’s Makongeni market in Ruiru Town.
Kiambu county commissioner Alex Nkoyo has said that police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the demolitions warning that stern action will be taken against perpetrators.
Addressing members of the public at Ndumberi Grounds on Sunday, Nkoyo refuted claims that police were involved in the demolitions.
“It is not true for people to claim that police officers are involved in the demolitions witnessed in Ruiru and Thika,” he said.
He added that security officials in the county will convene immediately to discuss the matter.
Nkoyo said that law enforcers will not allow acts of intolerance and violence saying that perpetrators will be dealt with accordingly.
The Kiambu county commissioner asked traders and hawkers whose property was destroyed to report the matters to their respective police stations within their areas.
Nkoyo said that security will be streamlined across Kiambu and that acts of crime will be dealt with according to the law.
