Former Nakuru County TNA Chairman Dr Abdul Noor has urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) to enforce policies in the police department that will ensure the officers’ morale are boosted in delivering their services.
Addressing Nakuru residents during a public forum organised by Ipoa on Thursday, Dr Noor also questioned the 'deliberate' transfer of police officers terming it as "inhumane".
"It does not look good seeing officers being transferred frequently and blatantly from one area to another. This is a shame to the department and has slowed down their morale in performing their duties," Dr Noor said.
Dr Noor also called on Ipoa to address the issue of corruption in the police department and take action against those found perpetuating such acts.
"The rising cases of corruption among traffic police officers need to be curbed. Ipoa should enforce rules and regulations that will ensure that traffic police who are found involving in bribery and corruption leave their jobs to allow for investigation. Those found guilty should also be heavily punished," he added.
The former TNA chair also went ahead to urge the National Youth Service (NYS) trained drivers to join the service to ease the ratio of police officers serving the public.
The Thursday event was also attended by several leaders including Nakuru Human Rights Executive Director David Kuria and Ipoa Board member Mr Vincent Kiptoo, among other leaders and residents.
