The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) deputy director of corporate communications Mr. Dominic Kabiru has urged drivers to follow to traffic rules in order to avert road fatalities.

Speaking on Monday at Thika Town after leading a crackdown on unworthy road vehicles, Kabiru said that the agency will make sure that drivers adhere to traffic rules to the letter.

He also said that the NTSA has audited all public service vehicles following an increase in fatal accidents countrywide and has warned private car owners from carrying passengers .

Mr. Kabiru said that drivers have the responsibility of maintaining the safety of passengers and pedestrians across all roads.

“Drivers are expected to demonstrate a high degree of caution when driving in order to avoid the loss of lives", said Kabiru.

He affirmed that the agency will act ruthlessly with regards to any driver found going against any traffic rule adding that their licences will be cancelled. 

According to statistics done by the NTSA, over 2, 400 deaths from road accidents have been recorded over the last 10 months.
