Women in Nyamira County have been asked form Saccos so that they can access funds and start businesses.

The women were advised to register with Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) so that they can empower themselves economically.

Speaking on Friday at Nyamira town during a fundraising for the county's MYWO, five women representativeness challenged women to initiate projects through credit from MYW so that they can be empowered economically. The women reps include Alice Cahe-Nyamira, Mary Otara-Kisii, Hellen Chepkwony-Kericho, Zipporah Kipsnag-Nandi and Bometi's Cecilia Ngetich.

Nyamira MYWO chairperson, Mary Orwenyo said only 200 women have so far registered in the ongoing registration and pleaded with other women to join the organisation.

"We as women have been left behind for a long time and it is now time to come together, not in any other way other than registering joining MYWO," she said.

Orwenyo said the funds raised would enable women in the county get empowered economically through access to credit. She advised women to start Saccos to enable them.

Chache warned women against saving money in their homes but instead advised them to save in banks for security purposes.

"We women prefer making savings in our houses, this is risky. Save your money in banks where you can be assured of their safety and security for yourself."

Other leaders who attended the fund-raising ceremony include; Nyamira governor John Nyagarama, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, former Kitutu Masaba legisltor Walter Nyambati and Kisii chairlady MYWO Batsheba Sanayo among others.
