Nyando Constituency ODM branch becomes the first to set up financial base to run the affairs of the party at the grassroots level.
The area MP Fred Outa said every ward will be given money to be able to run party activities.
“We now have money and our treasures of the party at the grassroots level will have work. They will handle the money to ensure it is prudently used for the party,” he said.
Outa said the party has no funds for the grassroots party officials and had to devise ways to organize a funds drive to propel party affairs.
The funds drive held in the constituency on Sunday was attended by several aspirants for county assembly positions and MPs position in 2017.
The MP said the Sh250,000 that was collected will be distributed among the wards in the constituency and be managed by ODM party officials at the grassroots level.
Outa said this will enable party officials to mobilize young people to go out and register for identity cards.
He asked the party officials to work closely with the MCAs and candidates for 2017 elections to generate more money to run the party.
“This is the time to help Raila Odinga and the only thing we can give him is to strengthen the party structures to be able to go out there and mobilise voters to register,” he said.
Outa announced that soon he will help other ODM branches in the county to collect funds for the party.
