ODM party has disowned a letter circulating on social media instructing National Assembly Minority Whip Thomas Mwadeghu to advise Cord legislators to go slow on the issue of NYS for fear that some members of the coalition could be implicated in the mega scam.
The party’s Director of Communications Philip Etale said the letter is a forgery and an attempt to divert the attention of the public from the theft of millions of shillings meant for the youth on the NYS.
In the letter, ODM Chairman John Mbadi is said to be instructing Mwadeghu to advise Cord legislators to go slow on the issue of the NYS for fear that some members of the coalition could be implicated in the mega scam.
“Of particular interest is the blatant mentioning of Suna East MP Junet Mohammed's name whom Jubilee sympathizers have been questioning his silence on the matter for the past week. Anyone can smell a rat on this,” read part of a statement signed by Etale.
It added: “The ODM wishes to state that Mbadi has and is still very vocal on the issue of the theft in the NYS where hundreds of millions of shillings have been stolen under the watch of Jubilee administration.”
Etale said that on February 19, 2016 at the funeral of the Kisumu Chairman of the ODM Dave Okwach, Mbadi rallied the mourners in calling for the arrest and prosecution of former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru in connection to the over Sh791 scam.
He also said that the letter bore a scanned signature of Mbadi, something that is not ODM style.
“This clearly shows Jubilee’s desperation and shallow attempts to try and drag the names of ODM/Cord leaders in their mud,” he said.
