Opposition Orange Democratic Movement party officials have told off Jubilee MPs for dismissing Cord leader Raila Odinga’s list of “persons of interest” in the Eurobond cash saga.

The party’s Deputy Organising Secretary Rozaah Buyu said Jubilee administration is not genuine in the fight against corruption.

Jubilee MPs on Friday dismissed Raila saying he was out to damage the government’s image in the international financial market.

Buyu said Raila clearly demonstrated the glaring anomalies surrounding transactions of huge sums of money in the Eurobond saga without proper valid paperwork proof of such movements.

At a press statement on Saturday, she said revelations by the opposition chief should be treated seriously and not as political gimmick.

Buyu said Raila questioned the decisions by the Kenyan government to move colossal sums of money to a 'small' bank in South Africa which could obviously not handle such huge transaction.

“This Raila asserts as suspect, given too that South Africa is a Rand Economy with stiff restrictions on transactions in other currencies, dollars included,” Buyu said.

She said to help unwind the Eurobond puzzle, Raila named the people holding the offices and in positions that have the mandate and responsibility to ensure prudence in all government dealings.

Raila on Thursday named nine senior Treasury and Central Bank officials who he called “persons of interest”. He said they should be arrested and prosecuted over the loss of Sh140 billion proceeds of the Sh250 billion Eurobond.

They are CS Treasury Henry Rotich, PS Kamau Thugge, CBK Chairman Mohamed Nyaoga and Chief of Staff Joseph Kinyua.

Others are Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo and Treasury staffers Bernard Ndung’u, John Birech, Moses Muthui, Patrick Kamau and former CBK Governor Njuguna Ndung’u,

“These are the people Raila terms as 'persons of interest' who are in the best position to help unravel the saga. Where is the mistake in that? Why do the Jubilee MPs always get personal, emotional and defensive when issues are being discussed? Is it a way of ensuring that suspect dealings are swept under the carpet?” Buyu said.

She noted that Jubilee did the same with NYS and were ashamedly embarrassed when it turned out that indeed there were massive financial problems within NYS and that Raila was right.

Buyu said Jubilee team must know that Kenya is bigger than their party and rather than be defensive all the time, they need to encourage investigations that would help the country nip in the bad corrupt dealings.
